Tango, gipsy-songs, Armenian and Russian folk-music, film music.

 

 

Music is their life, “Duo Masis”(started in the summer of 2001) however is their

first joint project. The selection of  repertoire enables the violin-virtuoso and the jazz-pianist to find a common medium.

 

Both of these talented musicians were born and grew up in Erivan (Armenia), a city renowned world-wide for its famous radio station. They met whilst studying at the local Music Academy in 1995.

 

Karen Asatrian, born 23.06.1972. in Erivan, Armenia, spent 13 years studying classical violin, piano and composition. He then worked as a bandleader with the Austrian National Circus “Knie”. In 1999 he graduated with distinction at the Kärntner Landeskonservatorium and since has appeared with some of the best Austrian and European musicians.

Engagements include the “Bruckner Symphonieorchester”, various Viennese Musicals productions and he is currently composing and arranging for the Vienna “Burgtheater”.

 

Anna Hakobyan, born  19.07.1973. in Erivan, Armenia, studied classical violin at the School for especially talented young musicians, followed by a further 4 years at the Academy. In 1995 she moved together with Karen to Austria, where in 1997 their son Erik was born. After further studies at the Kärntner Landeskonservatorium she became a member of the “Kärntner Symphonieorchester” based at the “Stadttheater” in Klagenfurt.

Since 2001 various performances with the “Duo Masis”.

 

The combination Piano-Violin offers passion, commitment, impressive performance, intensity, spirit, humour, unusual interpretations, wonderful  melodies and alltogether an unforgettable musical event.
